    Deer hunting

Cut using live edge walnut. I’ll probably sell it. I don’t hunt deer but I liked how it turned out. Finished with semi gloss poly.

  2. Well I finished the birdhouses yesterday. Not sure if i.m going to put string on them to hang up or just leave them the way they are.

  3. The third project, a test to see how far I can push myself and the material. This will be a decorative coffee cup wrap. 1/8" basswood cut with 2/0 FD Polar blades, speed reduced to 800 for control. The tail is 14 1/2" long and should wrap around the cup 2 times. This is a decorative piece and is intended to be for a cool display only, far to fragile to actually use.

  4. Second project, a smallish plaque with a coyote howling at the moon. Forget to add info on the first project, I switched back to the long stroke on the Hegner, I just couldn't get it to cut the 7/16 plywood on the short stroke. For this project the plaque was 1/8" plywood so I switched back to the short stroke. I used 2/0 FD Polar blades and reduced the speed to 1000, my usual speed is 1400. This one's going on the back burner as well, I need temps in the 60's to be able to stain outside and let most of the solvent evaporate before bringing it back in to allow the stain to cure fully.

    Bayou Blue Heron

Bayou Blue Heron pattern by Judy Gale Roberts and found in the current issue of SWWC. I used 1/2" Red Oak and backed with mat board. Cut in the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac and after drying, one coat of spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

Nice job Denny! I don't normally like Red Oak but it really pops on this piece! It is a fun one to cut. If I do another I will do some carving on it. When I did the testcut I couldn't get the backer color right and was running out time to send it to FC, so I found a piece of matt board with a color that worked for me. There will be a few more of recently found JGR fret designs in future issues that I am currently test cutting.

  17. Black walnut bowl. Carol Rothman pattern, same book as ScrollerPete’s project. Bowl pattern is 8”x8”x3/4”. What I like about this, is there is no scrap at all, just the sawdust from the kurf of the blade, which happens to be a Pegas MGT#9. Oh and I suppose the scrap on the perimeter of the bowl. Lots of shaping/forming, (read sanding). A lot of fun to make. I plan on finishing it with shellac using the the French polish method. However, I don’t have the guts to attempt what ScrollerPete is doing. One of these days Pete, one of these days.

  20. I spent most of yesterday sorting through mountains of scraps and managed to let go of a basketful sorted different species into different bins moved all lumber and made the lumber rack neater today I will move all tables and do a complete and thorough vacuum and clean then wax all metal surfaces i had to bring in everything so it wouldn't get knocked over or scraped while I clean I have pvc birds next to the boiler and in my den behind the tv unit Elmo's are just sitting in the living room where they won't get dirty or scratched my daughter texted me last night after I gave her the final count and she said they are going to raise a lot of money she said they were putting out the stick dog and person and calling it awesome pawsome raffles she figured she will sell most of them before they offer raffle tickets and that would be better as I don't want to have to make more if they get alot of raffle tickets sold

  23. Made a lot of progress today even though I still feel the congestion left over from the flu decided to walk to store for something but cold windy air triggered coughing so I just went back into the garage/shop and kept working all pvc birds have second coat of both colors and cut all pieces for the first doggie planter want to see how planter comes out before I cut another one lots of sanding and painting still but I'm good where I finished today way ahead of schedule(I have to make a schedule in my head so I set goals )

  24. This was last years fundraiser and it was a total sellout and I had to make an extra 3 birdfeeders and several birdhouses to those that just wanted to purchase them outright

  25. Yea I guess we can teach ourselves new tricks. I just found bottom feeding no problem and it was quick and efficient for me.

  26. I believe it is all in what you learned on. I always learned on bottom feeder saws so I find it very easy to thread blade and install in top clamp in seconds. Being able to se where to place blade in clamp is a huge advantage to me. No older Hawk saws can not be bottom fed. Neither the Hegners. I had a Dewalt for awhile and tried top feeding and that was a disaster. Fiddling under the table to find the clamp and making sure it is all the way in was a pain. I like to see what I am doing. That is why I broke very few blades.

  27. For a Harbor Freight warranty, you can do an in-store replacement. If you break it, they give you a new one.
