    Stylized Owls

Stylized Owls pattern by Sue Mey. I reduced the pattern to fit the wood. I used 1/2" Red Oak 4" x 12", so each is about 4" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT Blades. After a light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac, another light sanding, and one coat spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    Estate Sale

Went to a Estate Sale and picked up 13 4x4 x 3/8th thick sheets of Luan plywood for $13.00. Hubby didn't waste any time putting them in the car. lol. 450

  6. Well, it would be one of the most beautiful scroll saw tables I have ever seen!

  9. I have a chance to buy this and I’m wondering if it could (should) be adapted as a scroll saw table. Stability might be a problem. Ruining a antique could be a bigger problem.

  10. Here are two lighthouses. Cut from cedar with a #5 ultra reverse blade. Thanks to @don in brooklin onfor help on the patterns. Apples also cut from the cedar. Birdhouses were cut from unknown wood, but probably spruce. It was a piece of post/rail material. Finish is one coat of Garnet Shellac.

  11. I just wanted to share something that has helped me over the years. Being a bottom feeder, this works very well. Several years ago, I somehow acquired a spring-loaded nail set/punch. I have been using it for years to counter dent the holes on the bottom of a piece I am working on, so it is easier to find the hole and feed the blade into it. It actually works so well that often, I do not need to raise the piece high enough to see the hole. I can do it by feel. I have worn the punch out, so today I ordered a couple more. Here is a picture of the nail set and the nice indent it makes when used on a hole.

    AI?

Does anyone here know how to use AI and test what would happen if you asked it to make a scroll saw pattern out of the picture? I have seen a few of what they called intarsia patterns recently, but to me, they did not look like patterns, more just pictures of intarsia pieces. I suppose someone could use them as patterns.

    AI?

I think Steve Good made a sail boat pattern with chatGPT. I don't think he made it from a picture, though.

  15. Very nice. I am getting ready to cut a bowl from her book as a wedding present. Just wondering what angle you cut that at?

  16. I agree timelett. Some people are just negative and think more money is always better. If your happy with tools you have and the end result is your satisfaction that's all that matters.

  17. The current generation, my kids and grandchildren, do not put the same value as the our generation and before did. I do not know if that is good or bad. but it is a fact. My wife is really struggling with it. She is an antique person. Our kids, not so much.

  18. Yep, but it needs work. These sewing machine tables pop up often on sales sites. This one is going for $60 usd. I just missed out on a free one last week. I am thinking that it would almost be wrong to convert it. Decisions decisions.

  19. If I were you Syd, I would keep if it is yours and not destroy it using it for a stand for your scroll saw. Just my opinion. Is the sewing machine still in it? Jerry

    Stylized Owls

Very cool Denny! Brings back memories of our families table tennis team. Our logo was 3 owls perched on a branch, except one of them was hanging upside down. The name of our team? Nobody’s Perfect. That was my Dads favorite quote. Thanks Denny, the memories of back then are just wonderful

  21. I received the pen blanks from Cousineau yesterday and had to cut some little birds. I cut a 4 little birds from the Spectraply. I received different color 20 pieces 3/4” x 3/4” x 5”, enough to make 4 birds from each piece. This makes the cost 25 cents per bird. Oh, what fun.

  23. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video, we make a beautiful Celtic Clover for St. Patrick's Day 2025. This beautiful design is cut from oak, and the pattern is from Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine Spring 2022 Issue #82 by Fox Chapel Publishing. I hope you all have a happy and safe St. Patrick's Day and I hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  27. Not to cause a stir but when have you been to a power tool store that allows you or me to fiddle with the heavy power tools? I'm happy with mine but I am not running a business with it. And I am still using the clamps that came with the saw. I want to give it a fair chance to prove itself along with the saw before a honest report. I have always had a good experience with the Harbor freight staff and tools.

  28. I do agree, not everyone needs a higher end saw either.. most entree level or better saws will last a good amount of time for I'd say the majority of scrollers.. and as JT pointed out.. the used market usually has some pretty good buys on high end saws.. Back when I first got into scroll sawing I didn't even have a saw or the money for one.. so I just bought a pack of blades and used my fingers to hold each end of the blade.. made enough products to sell to buy a actual scroll saw with a motor on it.. This is just my scroll saw version of having to walk to school in 3 ft of snow uphill both ways barefoot and without a coat when I was a kid...

  29. Well when buying a saw, you have to buy the best you can afford with your funds, not everyone can buy top of the line, but this way they can enjoy the hobby, RJ
