Not so much bragging rights. I'm posting this as a "lesson learned ". As y'all know, we learn from our mistakes, not out victories. I was working on this hummingbird, ⅛ ply frame ans attempting to use stained glass for the colors. It was not going well. Between trying to fit the small pieces and the shear cost of the glass, not to mention the "cut you" factor, I bailed on using glass. So I'm giving another run with epoxy resin and have learned much with this hummingbird . As you can see in the pic, bleed out from the epoxy was crazy, something I hadn't counted on, but learned something which, in my opinion is a win. I know I didn't get a solid, full bond between the hummingbird frame and the backer board (painted silver). I plan to try to paint the frame to cover up the epoxy bleed, at any rate, wanted to share for anyone wanting to try or if you have suggestions on how to improve the process6 points

I “decided” to add some Tolkien to my favorite clock today. “I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” - J.R.R. Tolkien2 points

Bragging rights-not. This was supposed to be a shower gift for my niece. I stupidly glued the base to the rings before sanding. While tring to correct, made some gouges in the bottom. I am now the owner of a new, small bowl! Made with Poplar. Locer the grain in it. Finish is beeswax/mineral oil. Maybe we need to start a new category.....Not Bragging Rights2 points -
Four more Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments
heppnerguy and one other reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
Four more Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments designed by the late Diana Thompson. I used Walnut for the birdhouses and Spectraply for the little birds. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 Super Skip blades for the little birder and Pegas #6 Super Skip blades for the birdhouses. After a light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac, another light sanding, and a final dip. Comments welcome.2 points -
I've had success preventing bleeding into the wood by putting two coats of sanding sealer on the wood before pouring the resin.2 points

I have those, and they are good, but I prefer the Mac Mop. I have it mounted on my lathe and I use it mainly to remove the fuzzies off of the back of a scrolled, piece. It does a great job, wow they cost $20 more now than when I purchased the one I have. https://www.klingspor.com/shop/262644-mm630180178050-1930452 points

New Gnome
red river reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
For all you Gnome-holics out there. This is a little different in that it has arms compound cut. I modified one of Diana Thompsons patterns of a Dragon. Also, the person who requested this wanted 2 signs so the sign is held on by earth magnets and can be changed easily. PS: Please no political comments as I have enough of those on Facebook to sink a ship.1 point -
How time flies. I joined this group ten years ago which was the beginning of my scroll saw journey. So many members here gave me help and guidance. I can't thank you all enough. I have to give @Jim Finn credit for introducing me to inlayed box. That got me going on box building. Now I enjoy Inlaying and also incorporating intarsia into them.1 point

It has a 1/4" shaft, so it would fit in that chuck.1 point

I have one. I found it was a bit delicate for sanding. Probably good in some situations. But I usually prefer something a bit more aggressive. So, I don't use it much. I use sanding star/sanding mop similar to Gonzo's instead.1 point

I suggest checking with Ray at Seyco. He sold EX21s and no, also Pegas. He should be able to help.1 point -

If you get the few bugs worked out, it looks like a real winner. In fact, had I not read your message, It would have been a real winner as is. Like many things, people don't know the bobos if you don't mention them.1 point -
Thank you, Marg. I’m thinking of adding some flowers to the white border sides, and You belong among-The wild flowers, to the top and bottom.1 point

Our garage is full of my booboos. At least yours is still usable, so that still makes it a win in my book. Marg1 point -

I do have a grinder, and it helps. I was looking at the saws, but more than I'm comfortable spending. So I figure I'll see what I can do with the epoxy for now. Always like learning new things1 point

The thing with Stained Glass is when you are doing such small pieces you will need a glass grinder. I have done many items with small pieces that is the way to go. I also have a glass saw which helps a lot. Yes glass is gotten expensive which is why I save all my scraps.1 point

I would love it if you would buy it and give us a review.1 point

Looks great. I have lunch with a bunch of guys who are pen turners and a couple are going to bring me cutoffs. I had only one 2inch piece left over from a pen I did many years ago so I got 2 birds. I hope someone brings a chunk big enough for a Birdhouse as it is cool.1 point -
I had one of the original ones many years ago. It was meant to be mounted on a bench grinder shaft. I never did use it and it got sold in our estate sale before going out on the road. It was a neat and well made tool. @Scrappile, the brushes mount behind the sand paper and support tbe paper fingers.1 point

Alex Fox Basket #C30 Modified
wombatie reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
Alex Fox Basket #C30 Modified. I only cut 7 of the 13 rings making it wider at the base. I used 1/4" Hard Maple 8"square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT Blades. After sanding a ring, glue each ring and let dry. One coat spray Shellac, light sanding with a Mac Mop, and another coat with spray Lacquer Clear Gloss. Comments welcome.1 point -

Hello folks! I’m new to the group and pretty much a rookie scroller. this is the project I just finished working on because I got an email from a friend of mine with my favorite woodworking question: can you make this? I don’t have the skill (or saws) you talented folks have, but I do what I can. (I didn’t do the actual skull or antlers)1 point -
I had more fun playing with the program than the cutting. I stack cut three and only the top one was usable. I used some 1/4” oak plywood that I had on hand which was not a good choice. The grain ruined the shadow effects of the cut lines so I had to put several coats of paint to hide the grain. It was a learning opportunity, just not sure I want to do it again to use what I learned.1 point

Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video, we kick off Spring & Easter Projects for 2025 with a cut Easter Bunny, Easter Egg Holder! This Steve Good Design is made from various shop scraps and is the perfect design to display a specially painted Easter egg (Maybe even the Golden Egg!) This is the third chess set I have made using the scroll saw. Black Walnut and soft maple. Chess pieces were cut on my Hegner with Pegas #5 MGT. I went through 43 blades. It took me roughly 50-60 hours to make. Finish for board and box is shellac/alcohol, 50/50 split, applied using French polish method. Same finish was applied to chess pieces using a rag and tiny brush. A shout out to Dave Monk the master of chess sets for his input. IMG_6438.mov1 point

Wow I learned a new word today "fretsaw". I had to look it up. If a saw doesn't have a motor attached I don't use it. LOL1 point

The state of my crazy…I am like that dog that sees a squirrel! I have a few things that I started and not finished. I am going to try to get these things finished before I begin again. I DO lead a monthly Scroll Saw Club. I already have a challenge peace for the month completed, it’s jewelry. So, let’s see if I can get some of these finished before the next club meeting. I also completed a candle holder for my general woodworking club challenge. OH! There is also that whirligig I started….1 point -
On The Bench - Scroll Saw Challenge
MarieC reacted to RabidAlien for a topic
Been some rough days around the household and the office for a while, so I haven't done as much sawdusting as I'd like. Had John 3:16 on the saw for a while now, so this weekend, to get the motivation back (as well as needing some more bookmarks....never can have enough bookmarks!!) I grabbed a couple of quick cuts from the Pattern Library (maybe one or two from Google), resized for the bookmark blanks that I have, and knocked a couple out. Still have several more to cut today, but this is what's in-progress. I've been using one of the blanks with a really intricate wolf head cut in it, and1 point -
Yes, sir, it's beautiful early spring weather. But as always, we get this nice weather early, things start budding out, and then the freeze comes. Never fails. Anyway, it has really put me in a Spring mood. So I saw this H. Botas pattern. It was so springy that I had to cut it. I'm about 2/3rds done. Maybe can finish cutting it today. I should be outside doing Spring clean up.1 point
