This is an older saw.  I think it's been discontinued and been replaced with the Delta 40-694.  I have very little information, so if anybody has any info, please let me know so I can update the specs.  This is good info for people looking to buy used scroll saws.

Thanks LarryEA for suggesting this addition to the reviews section.

These answers are determined on a limited experience with a variety of saws. I have only cut with a Dremel and Delta 40-690. How easy is it to change blades? 4 How loud is this scroll saw? 4 How is the vibration of this scroll saw? 4 How durable is this scroll saw? 4     Five years of moderately hard scrolling and the only problem was dust in the switch

How happy are you with this scroll saw?    5

Great deal for the price new... $350 a 5+

My 40-690 came with 5 yr warranty, light and stand.  Those three and being on sale for 399.00 is what kept me from getting 788 which had 3 yr warranty, no light, no stand and much higher price.  Course found out the light and stand are, for me, only good for taking up space somewere.

I give it a 5 across the board.

It is now shown as discontinued and replaced by 40-694.

Larry, We agree,'It's a very good saw.'

A couple comments to your post. What do you mean by, 'Course found out the light and stand are, for me, only good for taking up space somewere.'

Most likely it is discontinued and replaced by 40-694, but the only place I have seen that stated is in this post.

The light was not bright enough for me and it would not hold in position.  Within a short time after I had mounted the saw on the stand I nearly knocked it over twice or more.  Plus I sit while sawing so had my own stand I had built for my old saw that it fits on.  I still have the light and stand in back of the shop taking up space.  By the way, the light I use was found at Goodwill for 3.98 it has a long flex arm and I have it attached to the upper saw arm.  Looks odd there, but it works great.

Did a search on sites that list the 40-690 for sale.  Most show no longer available.  One has it listed under discontinued tools.  Did not find any dealer that has new one currently for sale.  Several of the reviews of the 40-694 refer to it as the successor or upgrade of the 690.

Wish I lived near you, I'd buy the light and stand for my 'new' saw. I bought the 40-694 (not here yet) and

have to build a stand for it. I will still use my 40-690 probably for inlay. Now I get to see if the 40-694 is as good.

Oh, and we are the only two to rate our saws.
