Delta 40-694

I've had a 40-694 for 2 weeks now. This table on saw is huge, makes for a lot of area to support a project. It seems to operate with very little vibration, with one exception. When the speed is set in the 3-5 range it starts to make some sort of a speed related harmonic noise. I guess it doesn't really vibrate more but, there is some increased noise. Maybe someone here has an idea as to what might be the cause. This saw also cut more aggressively than my old craftsman. I may look into correcting the problem like other people have with the Dewalt 788. One more thing, the bottom blade clamp is bending the blade towards the cutting edge of the blade. If someone has a fix for this I would love to here it. All in all I really like this saw it is a huge improvement over the old craftsman 16". Once the few issues are resolved this will be an awesome upper end entry level saw.

I just ordered a 40-694 to replace my 40-560 from Home Depot because you can't beat $359 with free shipping. I will give an update on how good it is after using for awhile. I will compare it to Dewalt 788 and the Excalibur 16 that my woodworking club has. So far at the club Dewalt 788 is the choice. The Excalibur 16 is used very little do to the fact it's new and most of the scroll saw people are not familiar with it.

I have had mine for about a month. The saw work great and my son loves how smoothly in runs. I made my own light cost me $13.00 and a turned base and magnet. I would include a pick but don't know how.

I started having a noise problem and tracked it down to loose motor bolts. I tightened them and now it purrs like a kitten with no further issues. I think it going to be a great saw to use. When it comes time to lubricate the bearings it tears down easy so I foresee no problems with the maintenance.

Have had it for over a year and it's still running strong. Have cut large fretwork clocks and a lot of intarsia projects with some pretty hard lumber. Only disappointment was the table top could have been smoother. Spent some time sanding and polishing and of course making sure the blade holders were  running square. Holds blades well and really no blade breakage except in using spirals. The lift is great, but I use a 2x4 to hold arm up rather then use the locking pin (a lot quicker). But it's probably time to grease the puppy up, so time to re watch the video on how to tune up a Dewalt which is very similar. Would highly recommend this saw at the current price point.

I recently upgraded my Wen 3920 to the Delta 40-694 - it is a night and day upgrade

While the Wen is great "little" saw for learning and beginners, once you start to get the hang of things, the mid range Delta is a great upgrade

At this time, it is the lowest priced mid range saw and has similar bells and whistles of the Dewalt - it's almost a copy of it for less money!

I don't give 5 star reviews unless a product goes above and beyond what it is designed for, but this saw gets a rating of 4 on all the categories in this thread poll

I'm upgrading to this saw from the Wen and wonder if lubricating out of the box would be beneficial? Won't be here till Wednesday, have watched the video referenced earlier in the thread and a couple of comments about being nearly dry got me wondering. Thanks in advance.

I started sawing in 1966 have had 7 saws and this is the best one I have ever had.
