My vote was based on the older RBI version but the basics are the same.  I bought mine used a year or so ago and it has held up well.  I did replace a lower blade holder but that's all so far.  Only problem so far is occasional erratic speed control but I understand that it is fixable by blowing the dust out of the speed sensor - will do as soon as I find it :-(

I have ever seen a belt driven Hawk. The only belt drive saws I have seen is one Hegner (a very expensive one) and all of PS wood machines. Some of the older Deltas also.

No belt driven hawks. I just traded my 220 VS off on a BM 26. Today is the first day spent on it, & I like it!! Best saw I've ever cut on. Easy to operate, super quiet, tension is easy to adjust, & keep adjusted. Large work table, top & bottom feeder. Virtually NO vibration! The list goes on! Made in the United States. Its the Cadillac of scroll saws, IMO. Priced right, too!

I have a belt driven Hawk. It is serial #321 Model SS14. It is made to mount on a ShopSmith. Not having a ShopSmith I motored it and mounted it in a stand. It is now a single speed.

I HAVE SEEN A BELT DRIVEN HAWK AND AN AC MOTOR HAWK WITH VARIABLE SPEED.  FIRST WERE THE ALL RED BELT DRIVES THEN THEY MADE THINGS LIKE THE JUNIOR HAWK ETC.  THEN CAME THE MODELS KNOWN AS 220 ETC THEN CAME THE 220 VS MODELS THEN THE G4 THEN THERE IS A GAP AND IM NOT QUITE SURE WHAT EXACTLY WAS MADE WHEN BUSHTON GOT AHOLD OF THE COMPANY THEN THERE WAS ESSENTIALLY THE AMERICAN G4 WITH MODIFIED HEAVIER MOTOR AND METAL BLADE HOLDERS.  IF ANYONE HAS A G4 THOUGH ID LOVE TO HEAR HOW WELL THEY LIKE IT.
