Two Truths & A Lie:

Quote:

  1. Very nice napkin holders. And the wood is beautiful.
  2. Can I use padauk to make napkin holders? I’m using Steve’s Goods halloweennapkin.pdf pattern and I’m worried the wood may be too irritating from the stories I’ve read about it. We won’t be eating it but the napkins will be in contact with the wood and then they would be in contact with lips and face. As always, thanks in advance.
  3. I had a similar problem with one of the patterns here. A flamingo dancer napkin holder. The paper size was A4 and just would not print without cutting off part of the pattern, my eventual fix was to print the pattern on an 11 x 17 paper. anything else would screw up the proportions of the pattern. I even made some A4 paper and it still didn't print right.
  4. Is it summer yet? I can't tell because of the weather. But that doesn't stop me form firing up the grill! This month's challenge is about BBQ season! Post your projects that are related to outdoor cooking and dining! Signs, cutting boards, condiment holders, napkin rings, paper towel holders, grill scrapers, drink holders, or whatever! And while you're at it, tell us some of your favorite things to cook outdoors? Better yet, have a recipe to share? I wanna see them! Lets turn this into an epic BBQ thread. Pass the sauce!
  5. Pattered by Steve Good. I used cherry wood. This took me a long time. My first try I broke it. I’m happy with the results and it is now on my dining room table.
  6. Fortune Teller Game Pattern Well, who doesn't like a good game or story with the Devil as the featured character? One of my favorite Twilight Zone stories was called Nick of Time. A young couple go into a cafe and find a fortune telling machine disguised as a napkin holder. To make a long story short, the male of the team becomes addicted to the answers the machine gives him, almost to the point of signing away his life. This little game, which you can make on your scroll saw isn't as detailed as the one in the story, but it might be fun to ask it questions you have in mind. If you want you can even make this into a napkin holder and keep it on your dinner table for sideline entertainment. Download the pattern and check out the explanation video.
  7. A face mask is going to use a sheet or two for layered per roll. Can't figure why people have to grab in hoards. We have kept a roll in the car for years for spill, napkin, or one day my wife's seat was wet. When I first got them my wife was fighting me and telling me we have 'Bounty'. Now that she has used them, they have their own place next to the 'paper towel'. RJF
  8. Both 1/4" ply, one base plywood the other areomatic cedar.both stained with honey by varathane.wiped one left the other to soak .top coated with minwax clear . These are in scrollsawworkshop.com catologe
  9. Looks like a napkin holder! Neat work there A. K.!
  10. I am way too far past this. I started 35+ years ago as a woodworker/scroller I was always interested in making things with my hands and working with my hands. Probably why I got into construction and worked as an electrician for 43 years. Worked with my Dad when I was 7 helping him restore our house and add a set of dormers on to provide for us kids. From then on I had the bug. I learned so much from him as I grew up. I always said if we had the tools that I have now back then we could have finished a lot quicker. But it made me appreciate what I have now. I use to go to many craft shows just to look at what people created with their hands and minds and that always fascinated me. Met a few scrollers and from there on I was hooked. It happened again about 15 years ago when I got into turning and another hobby was born. Have no photos of yesteryears and everyone has seen my latest napkin holders. That was the last scrolling project I did last year.
  11. Great work. Been meaning to do napkin rings for a while, just haven't made it to the top of the cut pile yet.!
  12. Those are both really neat gifts and especially the tool box. I bet that will go through a few families just like my rocking horse has that my day made me over 70 years ago (I think I was only 14 then). It is still going strong, has been ridden through many families of my children, grand children, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. When the kids outgrow the little steed he comes home and waits for the next cowboy or cowgirl that needs a horse. I couldn't find a use for the neat napkin rings,, in my family a person wants napkins, we pass the roll of paper towel over!!
  13. I love the napkin ringsIKE
  14. The napkin rings and tool box look wonderful Now stop cutting and wind up the weights on your grandfather clock. Should be done every Sunday.
  15. Napkin rigs look great. The tool box and tools are very special.
  16. Love the napkin rings and your neighbour will appreciate them I'm sure. I adore the 'tool box' and his face will be a picture when he opens his present from Grandma.
  17. Some Christmas gifts done! Tool box for my grandson. The napkin rings for my neighbour.
  18. A couple of the ones I have finished. The letter/napkin holder is an H. Botas pattern I simplified slightly and is made from BB. The sign is for my BIL in Texas. It is made from cedar with a pine backing. Finish on both is spray can poly.
  19. I never sand my plywood ahead of time. To me it is a waste of time. I do not use much BB plywood but did when I made the napkin holders because it needs to be strong for the thin cuts. Actually used aircraft plywood which is stronger and more plys. I use light tack blue painters tape. I always use to apply my pattern directly to wood but found that to be a messy operation and when pouring MS or acetone on project the adhesive can get into the frets and it is a mess.
  20. The tree is basically my design, yes. All I did was find a basic Christmas tree on Pintrest and added the wheels to it. Those wheels were shown here before on a thread about napkin holders. I added a star to it. I will see if I find it here. Used the same round base I did for the others and sized it according to the size napkins I used. I believe the 5 X 5 size is perfect for these things. You have my permission to do as you wish. I used the same rings that Don used for his Valentines day one. Open his PDF file and you will see them. I will be making that pattern too for next year. Did not have enough time this year. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/32576-my-napkin-holder-for-valentines/?tab=comments#comment-364291
  21. No this is not my idea. This topic came up a few times during the summer . I believe it was this thread that started things but I can not remember. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/32348-napkin-holder/?tab=comments#comment-361434 These were popular on some Russian sites and brought over here. I have been working with a couple people to get me some of the designs. Don in Brooklin, and Ivan Nikolaev, members here. If you do a search here you will see these threads about this type napkin holders. Others have created designs and joined in also. I have other ideas if these do take off and will work on them this winter. I have shown the back of these 2 to show you the simple way the napkins mount. These are 5 X 5 cocktail napkins folded in a triangle and slid in the wheel. These are patterns basically taken from some laser cut patterns found on etsy.
  22. Well these have been talked about here and I decided to add them to my show items and hope they sell well and make great gifts for many this season as my shows start this weekend. The cocktail napkin holders. I will give people choice of color of napkins at show. If these take off I hope to add more to the lineup next year. I still think this is a cool idea. Hope others do to.
  23. I thought the background was wood but your right it's a holiday napkin!!,Good eyes you have ..mine are going fast.
  24. I always liked the turkey napkin holders. You are amazing Kevin.......
  25. Very good Kevin. Another one of your great creations. I got a bit confused and thought of a 'Prayer Cloth' when I saw the title prayer napkin ....
