Two Truths & A Lie:

Quote:

  1. No this is not my idea. This topic came up a few times during the summer . I believe it was this thread that started things but I can not remember. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/32348-napkin-holder/?tab=comments#comment-361434 These were popular on some Russian sites and brought over here. I have been working with a couple people to get me some of the designs. Don in Brooklin, and Ivan Nikolaev, members here. If you do a search here you will see these threads about this type napkin holders. Others have created designs and joined in also. I have other ideas if these do take off and will work on them this winter. I have shown the back of these 2 to show you the simple way the napkins mount. These are 5 X 5 cocktail napkins folded in a triangle and slid in the wheel. These are patterns basically taken from some laser cut patterns found on etsy.
  2. Nice work!! I especially like the napkin holder. Curious? when you pull out a napkin do u just get one, or do the whole bunch come out and flop all over the table like all my napkin holders? Man I wish I knew how to punctuate a sentence properly.
  3. It's on Sheila Landry's website. The napkin holder comes with this together.
  4. Made these a couple of weeks ago and finally finished them for the wife . A lot of times I cut something that I want to cut for myself - and this is one of those times . Making for everybody else is alright - but sometimes I like to pick something out that interest me, I was monkeying around and cut these out of scrape 2x6 material and the pattern came from Steve Good's site .......any comments are welcome ............
  5. The original pattern called for 3/4" wood but I thought that was overkill so just used some 1/2" Oak. John Old Dust
  6. This idea had me thinking. The family is having a baby shower for my daughter-in-law in April and I was trying to think of a good napkin holder for it but haven't thought of anything that might work. She's having a girl. A crib with a napkin skirt around the bottom? A baby with the napkins as a receiving blanket? Don't think they would look right. Their naming the baby Ava. How about a centerpiece with her name with the napkins flowing from it? Any other ideas or pattern help for these?
  7. I think any size would work perfectly well, you'd just have to adjust the size of your pattern and 'slot' to match the napkin, especially if you want the napkin to touch the 'floor'. I've just finished altering my own pattern to fit the napkins better. The paints still wet, but tomorrow I'll put up before and after photo's to clarify my meaning. xx
  8. Our youngest son is a senior engineer for American Airlines. The napkin holder is a stocking stuffer. Tree ornament & sides of napkin holder are 1/8" BB "good both sides." Napkin base is solid 1/4" oak (2 layers.) Drew the napkin holder on MS Word. Plane parts are Google - 787 images. Don't remember where I got the angels pattern. It was resized smaller. jerry
  9. OMG .... what i am done .... because of me now the napkin/serviette holder mania is set free ...... Great job done! I like it! Napkin folding - 1.Top edges must by closed. Also the vertical line. 2. Bend top corner all the way down. Both sides 3. End wiew. All the closed sides must by now vertical. I think so looks the "skirt" better .
  10. @Rockytime @JTTHECLOCKMAN here is another link https://www.etsy.com/listing/605831289/napkin-holder-wood-napkin-holder-plywood
  11. It is very easy to see. Mainly the way the napkin is folded and you need to find colorful ones. But there are tangs that the napkin fits between around the waste line. They are probably cut and attached like a tung and groove set up. If the patterns were available for sale is what I am after. I do not want to steal someone's idea by reverse engineering it.
  12. Lovely. Well done. I have always meant to make a napkin holder similar to that but I have never gotten around to it. Marg
  13. Beautiful napkin holders Marg.
  14. they are cute nice cutting wish my kids even knew what a napkin was lol
  15. At my house it was a national dipping day today. The past 2 days I have been making bases for my clocks and then sanding all clocks napkin holders and plaques getting ready for this day. Well 3 hours latter and 35 clocks with 35 bases, 5 plaques, 20 napkin holders divided by 2 because each has 2 sides and 10 bases. Dipped wiped down left to dry for about an hour outside and now all in basement where they sit for about a week. Then polished and assembled and price tag put on. I have about 5 other projects that I will continue to work on and hopefully will be done and ready for dipping end of next week. I am cutting it close so some projects may get pushed off for next year. Will see. I am still having fun creating things so on we go. Hope you all have a good day. I did.
  16. Oh WOW they all look fabulous. I love the trivet and the door hangers. The napkin holder are different. Marg
  17. Can I use padauk to make napkin holders? I’m using Steve’s Goods halloweennapkin.pdf pattern and I’m worried the wood may be too irritating from the stories I’ve read about it. We won’t be eating it but the napkins will be in contact with the wood and then they would be in contact with lips and face. As always, thanks in advance.
  18. Very nice napkin holders. And the wood is beautiful.
  19. Is it summer yet? I can't tell because of the weather. But that doesn't stop me form firing up the grill! This month's challenge is about BBQ season! Post your projects that are related to outdoor cooking and dining! Signs, cutting boards, condiment holders, napkin rings, paper towel holders, grill scrapers, drink holders, or whatever! And while you're at it, tell us some of your favorite things to cook outdoors? Better yet, have a recipe to share? I wanna see them! Lets turn this into an epic BBQ thread. Pass the sauce!
  20. I had a similar problem with one of the patterns here. A flamingo dancer napkin holder. The paper size was A4 and just would not print without cutting off part of the pattern, my eventual fix was to print the pattern on an 11 x 17 paper. anything else would screw up the proportions of the pattern. I even made some A4 paper and it still didn't print right.
  21. Great work. I really love those napkin holder.... Serviettes, had to look that up. It does sound nicer than napkin.
  22. A face mask is going to use a sheet or two for layered per roll. Can't figure why people have to grab in hoards. We have kept a roll in the car for years for spill, napkin, or one day my wife's seat was wet. When I first got them my wife was fighting me and telling me we have 'Bounty'. Now that she has used them, they have their own place next to the 'paper towel'. RJF
  23. Looks like a napkin holder! Neat work there A. K.!
  24. I am way too far past this. I started 35+ years ago as a woodworker/scroller I was always interested in making things with my hands and working with my hands. Probably why I got into construction and worked as an electrician for 43 years. Worked with my Dad when I was 7 helping him restore our house and add a set of dormers on to provide for us kids. From then on I had the bug. I learned so much from him as I grew up. I always said if we had the tools that I have now back then we could have finished a lot quicker. But it made me appreciate what I have now. I use to go to many craft shows just to look at what people created with their hands and minds and that always fascinated me. Met a few scrollers and from there on I was hooked. It happened again about 15 years ago when I got into turning and another hobby was born. Have no photos of yesteryears and everyone has seen my latest napkin holders. That was the last scrolling project I did last year.
  25. Some Christmas gifts done! Tool box for my grandson. The napkin rings for my neighbour.
