Two Truths & A Lie:

Quote:

  1. Here’s what I created. I found a hummingbird in the free clip art and I used Brenda’s cog. My base could be a bit bigger I think for more support. Still need to do more sanding and will paint it at some point
  2. I think that is who I just bought the napkin holder designs from last night. I asked them if they could make into a PDF file so I can use on my home printer and they agreed. They were there this morning and later today I will download them all. I opened a few and they will work just fine. I always can enlarge them or shrink to fit my needs.
  3. So, napkin holder made in full size. Nothing needs to be scaled. Just print two pages of this PDF file. The thickness of the plywood should be 4mm. If you need, I can change the color of the stroke line to red. Please, if you find any errors, let me know about it. I will try to fix them. Roket.pdf
  4. OK what do you say we make a list of some ideas for napkin holders such as what has been shown so far and maybe our pattern makers can do something with them. Here is what started it all. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/32348-napkin-holder/ My ideas are not many. My ideas are birds like Turkey or the bird with the large fan like spread, Peafowl. The idea of doing a dress with a gal somehow is good. Upside down umbrella a flower a butterfly basically anything that can fan out
  5. I think any size would work perfectly well, you'd just have to adjust the size of your pattern and 'slot' to match the napkin, especially if you want the napkin to touch the 'floor'. I've just finished altering my own pattern to fit the napkins better. The paints still wet, but tomorrow I'll put up before and after photo's to clarify my meaning. xx
  6. I've got an Axminster Trade Series AWFS18, it was advertised at around £650 at the time, it runs with practically no vibration at all unless I go to a really slow speed. Must confess have never done anything with 'angles' as I have no interest in Inlay or such. I like my word art and portraits best or my new found Napkin holders. LOL.
  7. Thank you so much for the 'napkin folding' photos. It really does make a difference doing it your way. Amazing. Also, thankyou for letting us know that these things existed, you really have 'set them free' I think they are wonderful xxx
  8. OMG .... what i am done .... because of me now the napkin/serviette holder mania is set free ...... Great job done! I like it! Napkin folding - 1.Top edges must by closed. Also the vertical line. 2. Bend top corner all the way down. Both sides 3. End wiew. All the closed sides must by now vertical. I think so looks the "skirt" better .
  9. Looks great, Brenda, Perhaps the napkin size looks too large because you reduced the pattern size to 95%. God Bless! Spirithorse
  10. Does look good... But for me,,,, not into women's dress designs. I wonder what a porpoise or whale would look like splashing up out of the middle of those napking....Maybe a rocket taking off with a red napkin "flame" coming out the bottom... or....dragster.... Seriously, looks very good Foxfold.
  11. Just because I wanted to see if my pattern worked, I did this in ½" mdf on my pin-end saw. I'm quicker on that than on my Axminster. LOL It would definitely need painting ( Matt Black I think) and for me it's perhaps a little 'plain' in it's outline, but hey ho it's a start and I already have dozens of thoughts about what I could make into a napkin holder as there are thousands of vector graphics out there. !!!!
  12. Well, this is my first attempt at the pattern I bought. Not displeased with it although there are things that I'd do differently. My 'Napkins' must be a lot bigger than what is intended for this holder as they hide the 'bodice' of the dress. A photo of one with Napkins and a photo of the other side without, just to show. The gaps where the 'feet' go is my fault, I think I printed the base at 100% but I cut the doll at 95%, I'll watch for that later
  13. I remember my Aunt had one back in the 50's. If you look at the sites provided there are pictures of the napkin holder with out the napkins. Looks like it is a couple of pieces put together. Looks like it would be fairly simple to make. I bet one of you guys could make one...………………...anyone up for the challenge?? :)
  14. Bottom line, if you want yourself a pattern with a napkin holder, then you have several options: 1. Buy Amazon pattern 2. Find free patterns on Russian forums 3. Ask for free to share a pattern (on the same Russian forums), I think none of the authors will not deny you such courtesy. If you have difficulty finding and knowing other languages other than English, then I can help in this matter as an intermediary. - Post links where to look. - Find the right and make an adapted selection. - Draw the desired pattern for you. . I think there will be no problems with blanks. All that is needed is a suitable silhouette and the very fastening of napkins. P.S. Photo author Victor Lysenko
  15. Hello to all. Let me explain something to you about patterns in Russia. 1. On the example of napkin holders. Suppose I drew a pattern and sold it to another person. He shared a free pattern with a friend. (it's hard to call piracy) A friend sawed a napkin holder and posted a photo of the network. Another "designer" saw the photo and sketched the pattern, maybe not even for sale, but as a gift to his wife. In a couple of years, every third master will have such patterns and it will be almost impossible to find the author. Such patterns acquire the status of folk. 2. If I am the author and found a napkin holder made according to my pattern, even on sale, even if I don’t get my commission from these sales. I will not sue. First of all, I painted a pattern for my own pleasure and I feel sorry for the time for litigation. Secondly, these "pirates" greatly save me money on advertising. They simply do not realize that they are helping me. ))) 3. An example of expensive patterns. In Russia, there is a company that makes parametric furniture. A strong company, with its designers and advertising agency. Some of their patterns sell. The average price of 1000 dollars. A year later, they post their patterns on the net for free. When I was surprised to ask the founder of the company why they were doing this, the answer was received: First, the creation of each pattern over time pays off. Secondly, sooner or later, these patterns will still emerge in the network. It's unavoidable! So let it be better we ourselves will lay them out in good quality. As a manifestation of charity. It seems to me that this is quite logical and fair.

  17. That looks like the 3 that are available. Now the question is what does this mean?? I do not have a laser. Will these come up as a scrollable pattern http://Thank you for visiting our store. 18. @Rockytime @JTTHECLOCKMAN here is another link https://www.etsy.com/listing/605831289/napkin-holder-wood-napkin-holder-plywood
  19. I am guessing those are a take off of these http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=lady+napkin+holders
  20. It is very easy to see. Mainly the way the napkin is folded and you need to find colorful ones. But there are tangs that the napkin fits between around the waste line. They are probably cut and attached like a tung and groove set up. If the patterns were available for sale is what I am after. I do not want to steal someone's idea by reverse engineering it.
  21. I don't think this would be hard for a pattern maker. Some close up photos of one here https://www.etsy.com/listing/573699623/rustic-napkin-holder-unique-napkin-stand?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=unique+napkin+holder&ref=sr_gallery-1-40
  22. In Russia, such napkin holders are now in trend. Forums are inundated with requests to share a pattern.
  23. I like that. Napkin holders look great to.
  24. OK I really do not know how to do this both to give credit for the pattern makers, also to show off my work, and to finally not bore you all but I will try and hopefully the site will allow for this. It will be a lengthy post so pull up a chair and get some popcorn. I first want to thank the pattern makers here that do such a great job and in particular and I hope I am not leaving anyone out and if I am please please accept my apology. Over this past year I began changing some projects in my inventory and I need help with some patterns so I asked here and had gotten help from Tim (WORBLER) , JIMERN, Bob (BOBSCROLL), Paul ( GRANDPA), Russell BIRCHBARK) and also many from Steve Good who I am not sure ever looks in here, and again if I missed someone please mention something if you see a project I made and did not give credit. Not my intention to leave anyone out. I will start with the know pattern makers and then just post finished projects. All got great reviews at the show my hats off to you pattern makers for the help. I also want to mention I probably took your pattern and incorporated in some manner to make a project that had my vision and taste added to it. Thanks again and let the show begin. I see I can not do this the way I wanted so I will have to make individual postings. Bear with me. Bob ( BOBSCROLL) Irish napkin holders and also Irish plaque Iron worker clock
