A few months ago, my grandson asked questions about the 30x173mm round from a GAU-8 I have sitting on my desk. We watched several videos of the A-10 firing at ground targets. Since then, he asked every time he was here: When will you make one for me? So I did. Burrrrt! My 30x173mm practice round. Disarmed of course.

Watching Bush 41's funeral inspired me to design and cut his Grumman Avenger TBM. Lots of very fine lines and rather than trying to recreate the prop blades, I had to make a ellipse sweep of the blade arc. The canopy was tough with all the intersecting frames. I did have to deviate from my original pattern in some areas to create more bridges. Lots of blue tape to hold it all together. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Shellac/lacquer finish. Time to put the airplanes in the hangar for a while.

The Boeing 314 is the 3rd in my cuttings of vintage luxury airliners and this airplane has the most interesting story. PanAm was operating the luxury B314 flying boat Clipper Ships across the long legs of Pacific prior to WWII. The story of the Pacific Clipper on December 7th 1941 is one of courage, ingenuity and perseverance. I have included a PDF file of that amazing adventure along with a route map and pictures of the aircraft. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed cutting the B-314 plaque. A movie is in preproduction called the Escape of the Pacific Clipper. BTW, wife says I need to give the planes a rest for a while. Back to boxes and fret work. The Round The World Saga of the.pdf

Thank you Don for your great pattern assist. Those thin lines were very scary. Made sure to stick the cut out pieces back in place and tape over on both sides. Used the scotch bright sanding ball with a hand drill and it worked great removing the fuzz. Stained the 1/8" plywood backer board with ebony stain. Used hand brushed contact cement on back of cutout. It worked out great and I hope my niece enjoys it. (and remembers what it says the next time she goes flying)
