  1. Here are two lighthouses. Cut from cedar with a #5 ultra reverse blade. Thanks to @don in brooklin onfor help on the patterns. Apples also cut from the cedar. Birdhouses were cut from unknown wood, but probably spruce. It was a piece of post/rail material. Finish is one coat of Garnet Shellac.

  9. I want to cut a few ornaments from Steve Goode pattern and I was wondering what sequence to use to make them. http://www.stevedgood.com/3dintorns.pdf The ornaments are a compound cut with a letter in them. I want to fill the letter with a glitter epoxy. My question is should I cut the letter first and fill with epoxy then cut the ornament or should I cut the entire ornament and fill the letter then. Thanks
  10. My future son in law requested a family gift, Christmas ornament. Since all the "crafters" around here have discovered laser cutters, I wanted something different, so I stepped outside my comfort zone and tried compound cut ornaments. A big hit. Now I need to talk to my lawyer friend to see how to set this up. I want to hire someone to store a brunch (50) of ornaments and after I pass, mail them to my daughter every year, just before Christmas. here are some of the ornaments I've cut so far: the small one is birch ( local source for 1" x 1" square dowel, birch) the rest are from pine 2x2. the ornament patterns are Steve Good. The reindeer is a test pattern off the internet.
  11. I had a bit of inspiration while reading a BASS magazine. Went to my scroll saw and drew out a pattern on a scrap piece of wood, cut it out. A lot of sanding was involved to get the shape somewhat ok. A rough prototype that I’m going to stay working on. Fishing is my passion and these would be nice little trinket gifts.
  12. I recently posted a comparison of some scroll saw blades and got some good feedback. One notable thing was that several said that the Pegas Modified Geometry Blades were their favorites. I had not used them and ordered several different sizes. Once I got them, I wanted to compare them to my standard blade which is the Flying Dutchman #7 Polar and to the PS Woodshop #7 Super Sharp. Below is a picture showing a close up of the blades and also a table with the specifications and the cost per dozen. Interesting that the Pegas Modified Geometry has some reverse teeth on the lower part of the blade. I edited this topic and took out the references to the cutting comparison that was done.
