  1. Hello everyone, I have found this wonderful forum very recently from doing a web search on scroll saws. I am a beginner. I am looking at getting a used good one -- so far, I have seen a Delta 18" variable speed and an Excalibur-II 19 inches. I understand the EX-II is an old saw but well-built. I contacted the Delta seller and was told it's a Q3. My biggest concern is not being able to find parts when I need to. I am in Ontario, Canada. I have attached two pictures of the saws (one of each). If you were in my shoes, which of the two would you get, assuming they're both working perfectly (Both claimed they're in excellent condition)? The Delta is $100, while the EX-II is $280. Both are about 1-2 hours away. I am also open to recommendations on a new scroll saw, if it's better than the two I mentioned AND it's within $250. I wish I could get a Dewalt straight away, but the price range is too high for me at this point. My plan is to get a decent one to practice on, and then get a much better one when the right time comes. Thank you so much for your time. I greatly appreciate any advice.
  2. Howdy All. I know there is a lot of work that still needs to happen to get SSV back to it's former glory. I'm going to start a list of some of the common problems and the solution to fixing them here. I'll update this list as I can. If you are experiencing trouble, looking for something or want to report a bug, this is the place to ask. If you are having trouble logging in, you can email me at travis@scrollsawvillage.com or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the website. SSV keeps logging me out. Clean our your cache. Find out here. Hold down the Ctrl button and click the refresh button on your browser. Press Ctrl+F5 to refresh. Add a question mark behind the address in your browser window and hit return. My user name has changed to my real name. Why do I have to be logged in to view the website?
  3. I bought the $100 Ryobi scroll saw from home depot last month and have not really done anything with it until today. I was practising on an old 1/4" piece of plywood. It started doing this thing where it makes a weird sound like a horse exhaling through its lips and it seems as though the blade speeds up for a second at a time. It seems to do it randomly every 10 to 30 seconds or so. I've searched the internet for a good half-hour now and cant find any info on this issue or if its even a problem. Can anyone give me some advice on this? I'm still really new to this and am not sure what could be causing it. Thanks
  4. Hi, I am new to scroll sawing and am trying to find out some information on a few things. First, I made some puzzles that I think they turned out alright. But, I have a little to much space around the puzzle between the frame. I used a #3 spiral blade and the puzzle moves a little in the frame. Any Ideas? Also, if you stain something to dark how do you lighten it? I made this for my Vet. but, the stain just looks so dark now that it dried. Just asking! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so very much! Trollmomjo
  5. Help will be appreciated; My type 2 DW 788 has started to have issues; binding in the bearings --sometime knocks, sometmes does not! Does anyone know where a bearing kit with all of the bearings is available; so I can have them on hand to replace all at one time. I know I have several going out! I only want to take it apart once; not several times. I also want to be able to do all of the bearings at one go! It makes no sense to me to have it down and then search for each bearing, I think there should be an "overhaul" kits available like there are for engines!
  6. I just received a brand new DeWalt scroll saw and am very upset. The darn thing vibrates and knocks if you go over halfway on speed. If it was not bolted down it would walk across the room. Also the table still tilts a little back and forth even tho the knob is very tight Has anyone else had trouble with there DW788. Is there anyone in the Glendale,AZ area that could help me to decide to keep it or send it back. Had to wait since February to have it shipped on a slow boat from China.
  7. Hello Everyone, I am trying to find the best $$$ value in sandpaper! Standard sheets, not velcro or self adhesive. I love Harbor Freight's sanding belts; but their sandpaper is hardly worth taking out of the store. I have found that 3M or Norton are best for me! Any other good, decent priced, where to purchase etc. Please email me if you know of a good source! Thanks all.
  8. hey, can anyone tell me where to go to change my password to get onto The Village ? I can not for the life of me remember what I used the first time I came on here. Now, for some reason I have a really difficult time logging on and if I could only change it to what I want it to be, I would be so happy. This sight is where I enjoy spending most of my time on the computer and most of the time, now, I can not even log on. I went through the procedures sent to my email and this is the first time I have been able to log on here for some time. I thought it would bring me to a spot where I could put in my new password but instead it gave me a variety of numbers to use, which I will never remember. I hope this is not a blessing to most of you, but to me, it is miserable. you are family to me.
  9. Howdy all. Well, this is the new forum. It'll take a bit of getting used to, but I'm already liking it much more than the previous system. Whenever you move data from one piece of software to another, there are chances of the data moves over strangely. I'm still fixing settings, preferences, options, permissions, etc. in the background to overcome these hurdles. Things may change overt the next few days. If you see something strange, doesn't act right, doesn't look right, or an obvious bug, please let me know here and I'll look into it. If you can't do something you previously could, also let me know. Thanks for helping me squash a few bugs. :-) I'll post a few solutions to the common problems below: I can't login. If you're account didn't have at least 1 post in the forums before we made the move, your account was deleted. You can read the announcement here: http://www.scrollsaw...nt-get-deleted/ You can re-register for a free account to access all of what SSV has to offer. [*]Post attachments and pictures aren't showing. I think there's a bug when converting the old post attachments. If it is one of your posts, you can simply edit the post and immediately save it. The pictures will show up. Myself and the moderation team will do this where we can. [*]Links are broken Links that link to other forum posts are probably broken since we have a new URL structure. If it's your post, you can edit it and fix the link. If it's not your post, just post a reply saying the link is broken and hopefully someone (a moderator or myself) will fix the links. [*]Links to the old gallery are broken If you want to connect to the old gallery, look in the url where it says: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/index.php?cat=10117 and add the word "old" before the word "gallery" in your URL (no spaces). So it should look like: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/oldgallery/index.php?cat=10117 If you come across a broken link in someone's signature, just modify your URL like I mention above and you should be able to get there.
